School Council Visit to Houses of Parliament

School council and Value ambassadors recently visited the Houses of Parliament to further our knowledge and understanding of Democracy in action. This offered us a unique combination of one thousand years of history, modern day politics and stunning art and architecture.

We were able to enter the House of Commons to learn about debates and had a tour of the whole grounds, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The children then took part in an interesting workshop about voting and elections. Our local MP, Mark Hendrick, visited our workshop and we had the opportunity to ask him questions about his role and our local area.

We visited many London landmarks throughout the day and travelled on the underground. We had a fantastic day and the children’s behaviour was excellent, we are very proud of how they represented our school.

Jubilee Dance Workshops

Year 5 really enjoyed the 1950's dance workshop.  We channelled our inner Elvis for the warmup before learning a routine to Little Richard's Tutti Frutti song!

Pyjamarama 2022

This year, as part of our 'Reading for Pleasure' events, we have supported the Book Trust charity.  We were able to come to school in our pyjamas or a bright coloured top to raise funds so that Book Trust can make sure that no child misses out on their bedtime story.

We hatched ducklings

In Nursery and Reception we hatched baby ducklings. The children were amazed to observe the ducklings hatch out of the egg and watch them grow for 2 weeks. We had lots of fun watching them swim in our water tray! The ducklings provided lots of knowledge and new vocabulary for the children. Please take a look at the photos and talk about them with your child at home.

Our visit to the Farm

Reception visited Smithills farm in Bolton.  At the farm, we petted baby animals in pets' corner and fed lots of different farm animals. We learnt the names of different animals young and found out all about where different food comes from like milk and ice cream. We had a tractor ride to go and feed the donkeys. The children had a fantastic visit, and their behaviour was exemplary. Please take a look at the photos from the visit and talk about them with your child at home.

Ancient Maya

On Thursday 13th January, Dr Diane Davies (the only Ancient Maya Archaeologist in the UK) came into school to work with Year 5.  She shared with us her experiences about what it is like to live and work in the Guatemalan rainforest.  She also taught us about these amazing people who lived over 1000 years ago.   They were great builders, artists, mathematicians, writers, astronomers, ballplayers and even chocolate-makers!  During the visit, we were able to look at Maya artefacts and created a Maya calendar.

If you want to find out more about the Ancient Maya visit her website.

Number Day 2022

On Friday 11th February, all the children and staff from Nursery to Year 6, celebrated Number Day. They dressed up in clothes that represented numbers in their many forms, including dice, clocks, Arabic numerals, Roman numerals, and even French numbers! Well done for finding a MFL link! Some people had turned themselves into a walking Maths problem and one Year 3 boy turned himself into a Maths Book; inviting his friends to solve the questions on his top! We had lots of fun celebrating numbers and adding to our enjoyment and enthusiasm for Maths.
Water Park Visit January 2022- Wetherlam Group

Year 6 had an amazing week away at the Water Park Residential! It might have been a chilly week away but my goodness they took every opportunity available to them. They took part in many activities such as kayaking, canoeing, hiking, rock climbing and orienteering - some even braved the cold and swam in Lake Coniston! During the visit, the children worked together in their teams to support and encourage each other when trying new things, some of which appeared a little scary to begin with. They showed resilience and determination throughout the week and learnt to challenge themselves in various ways.
It's only when you try new things that you might discover something that you really enjoy doing!
